Join us to tour small and sustainable farm operations within East Tennessee!

This is our official schedule for Summer Field School 2024. We’ve got an awesome lineup you won’t want to miss! Attendees can pick workshops a la carte for $15 per session or purchase all 8 sessions for a discounted rate of $100. One ticket represents one person. Sessions will take place the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 6-8pm in the evening. All sessions will include a tour of the farm, an additional speaker, and time for questions and socializing. The session schedule with descriptions are below.

  • May 9th, 6pm: Foothill Frolic Farm (Blountville, TN): Rotationally grazed cattle
  • May 23rd, 6pm: Green Pasture Farm: hydroponic vegetable production, chick hatchery, on-farm sales and multifaceted farm operations management
  • June 13th, 6pm: SLAP Farms (Greeneville, TN): pasture raised chicken and turkey, eggs, on farm processing, regulations surrounding poultry farming from Mike Brown of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture.
  • June 27th, 6pm: Two Roots Alpaca Farm and Mill (Greeneville, TN): Alpaca farming and running a mill, utilizing NRCS EQIP funding for livestock production.
  • July 11th, 6pm: (Jonesborough, TN) Curtis Muscadines: Fruit production - figs, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, muscadine grapes and more.
  • July 25th, 6pm: Barker's Blooms (Bristol,TN): specialty cut flowers, continuing education for farmers
  • August 8th, 6pm: Hope Farms and Studio Farm (Greeneville, TN): Vegetable and high tunnel production, soil health
  • August 22th, 6pm: Myers Farm (Bulls Gap, TN): Agritourism, beef cattle, plant starts, greenhouse, pumpkins, corn maze, value-added products and farm insurance and liability, Farm Bureau policy work.

Appalachian Resource Conservation & Development Council's workshops require advanced time, effort, and expense to plan and host. As such, it is policy of ARCD to issue refunds for registration fees only in the event that the workshop is cancelled or in extreme circumstances. In order to receive a refund for extreme circumstances, registrants must communicate with the workshop coordinator at least 48 hours prior to the event so that their spot may be offered to someone on the waitlist. Refunds will not be issued after a workshop begins.
